On behalf of our Members Advantage South West is co-ordinating the Domestic Abuse: Making A Stand Conference on 28th April in Exeter.
The conference is aimed at managers of contractors working in social landlords’ properties in the south west.
The theme for the conference is Preventing Domestic Abuse. Did you know that:
- 2 million adults experience domestic abuse each year.
- 2 women a week are killed by a current or ex-partner.
- A domestic abuse crime takes place EVERY MINUTE across England and Wales
- 140,000 children live in a household where serious domestic abuse takes place.
The conference will highlight the simple yet important step that contractors can take to help reduce domestic abuse. Speakers will include the survivors of domestic abuse kindly offering their powerful and high impact stories to aid understanding of their experiences. Speakers bringing awareness of the statistics, toolkits, management techniques and ways to identify and prevent domestic abuse join us from the NHS, police, contractors, landlords and third sector organisations. We will launch resources that contractors can use to help their employees play a part in reducing domestic abuse.
ASW Members have signed up to the Chartered Institute of Housing’s ‘Make a Stand’ initiative which seeks to reduce domestic abuse experienced in social housing properties. Contractors will be invited to sign up to the Supporters Pledge, information about which can be found at http://www.cih.org/makeastand.
Attendance is by invitation only, contractors will receive invites during February.
