Advantage South West is a key member of the Building Better consortium which is developing frameworks for OSM / MMC of new properties.

Building Better is an alliance of 29 housing associations  and local authorities (including all Advantage South West members)working together to increase theuse of modern methods of construction (MMC) in the social housing sector. Set up in 2018 as part of the National Housing Federation’s Greenhouse innovation programme, Building Better aggregates demand from its members so we can procure high quality, sustainable, off site homes, at the right price, confident in the fact that these homes will meet our customers’ needs.

The first framework for offsite volumentric houses and flats launches in July 2021 with three companies:

  • Ilke Homes
  • Impact Modular
  • TopHat

Trina Chakravarti, Project Director of Building Better, said: “In the past, housing associations, local authorities and manufacturers have often gone through the MMC process alone – there is no aggregation of knowledge or resources, and mistakes are repeated. We want to change this through early, honest partnership working between social housing providers, manufacturers and residents, sharing information and learning together to improve MMC and overcome traditional barriers.”

Advantage South West has sessions arranged for Members to explain the features and benefits of the framework and how they can access it
